 Winston Wonders????...........

What makes the holidays special????

I have no idea why everyone would think I would want to share. We have had an agreement that when you eat, I won’t bother you so please don’t bother me. So there we were, happy as can be – all our agreements have been made, life is good. Then, the best thing happened, Mom and Dad brought a beautiful tree in to the house! I thought it was very convenient since it has been getting kind of cold outside, why go out when you can just relieve…oh, never mind…

So, one afternoon I thought it was incredibly wonderful for everyone to bring me things in paper. Why they would bring those things to the tree, I don’t know – whatever. So I just kind of chewed the toys opened…no big deal. Just then the bossy girl saw me and started yelling for Mom and told me I was in trouble she said those things weren’t for me??? OK so Mom wasn’t that mad but she did take everything away and said they were for a special occasion.
So the day came and the little boy took the paper off the toys – everyone seemed really happy. They gave me something to tear open…a new leash…thanks. So the day went on and people came to visit everyone was happy and finally someone gave me a bone with paper on it…I tore that paper really fast and chewed on my bone…very nice! People thought it was pretty funny. I didn’t get it. So then someone knocked on the door, (scared the wits out of me, I had to bark a lot) and in he walked, Red Suit, Beard and All. Everyone jumped up and then, there she was, Simone!

I have to say that a puppy is quite a task for me. When she first arrived I was really shocked. I felt betrayed and dismayed – all the cooing and special attention everyone gave her was really disappointing. Yes, she is small and does have a very girlish look but there is absolutely no reason to think she is cuter and sweeter than I. Thankfully, Mom saw things more clearly and now has me sitting with her when she is on the computer. I am also very glad to see that she has finally decided to take those walks she promised…I can sure use the exercise (and frankly, so does she – I’m not mad, just telling the truth). At least she doesn’t bring Simone along….I am sure she couldn’t keep up.

Simone has some nerve! There I was, just about asleep in my day bed with Mr. Fluffy (who has been my most favorite stuffy from the time I moved in!) and she just came running at me and jumped on my back, grabbed my ear and tried to run off with my Mr. Fluffy. I thought it was very fair of me to give her a piece of my mind and wouldn’t you know it, there was Mom, standing in the hallway with her hands on her hips. Simone wasn’t really hurt, she just wouldn’t stop yelling – Mom was yelling too. Something about Simone being a baby BUT whataboutme I was always the baby!!!!
After that things were pretty quiet for a few days. Simone left me alone but Mom and Dad and the others were not really talking to me. I did get some rest and clearly, Simone got the idea that Mr. Fluffy was mine but I didn’t feel much like playing.
The house was really quite and kind of depressing.

Then, it happened. There was Simone just standing in the kitchen kind of staring at me. I couldn’t figure out what the heck she was doing so I just stared back. She looked kind of small and worried so I just started to walk over to say Hi and she just put her head down real low and ran away! Now that was really uncalled for. I was just wondering what the deal was with her standing in the kitchen like that. So, I walked in. I looked left and right, no Simone. Gee, there was no where she could go, only one way out and I was standing right there – there would be no sneaking past me. So I looked and looked, and then, I saw the little end of her tail, she was behind the refrigerator! What The Heck Is She Doing Now??? So I marched right over to check and she started to cry a little and squeezed herself further back into that little space. I was so shocked I just sat there – Simone was afraid of me!!!! Hey, I am Winston, there is no reason to be afraid! What did I do to make her so scared? Oooooh, maybe the Mr. Fluffy thing…Humm..ER, um do you really think that could be it?  So, I went to find Mom. I think she should know Simone is in a spot she shouldn’t be in and ummm…maybe she is stuck? So I found Mom and just stood there looking like there was something I had to tell her, she is good at catching on.  I gave her the very sad eyes she always understands…”Hey what’s up Winston? Do you have to go out? Hey, did you use the tree?”  Uh, no I didn’t use the tree… but if you would just come with me for a minute…
So off we went into the kitchen…and there she was just sitting in the middle of the room. When she saw Mom, she wagged so I just came around the corner and then, when she saw me, she just ran away!!!! Mom looked really upset and gave me a sad look. “Winston” she said, “you have really scared Simone. We thought it would be nice for you to have a new friend who could play with you like only another dog could. We even chose a Dachshund so you and she could play the same games. I think it was very rude to be so bossy about the Mr. Fluffy thing. Now she is afraid and I just don’t know if she will ever really trust you.” Mom picked up Simone, gave her a kiss and put her in her crate and closed the door. I want a kiss too!!

So there was only one choice. While Mom made dinner I had to dig in my toy box (someone had to touch all my things, again!)  and there he was, Mr. Fluffy… I took a long hard look at his friendly face – I just love that face, even without the nose (I took it off last Halloween). But, I guess it is time…so I picked up Mr. Fluffy and marched off into the kitchen and dropped Mr. Fluffy right in front of Simone’s crate (used to be mine) . She looked very worried as I walked up. She plastered herself in the back of the crate but I just stood there – nothing, no change, not even a happy face when she saw Mr. Fluffy…Mom was cooking but just happened to look over as I stepped back. “Oh My Goodness!! Winston, What A Good Boy!!! Sharing Mr. Fluffy With Simone!!!” and then she did it! She picked me up and gave me a hug and a kiss!!! Simone noticed and looked a bit more relaxed when Mom picked me up (right!!) “You are Such A GOOD BOY!!” Right! I am! So when she put me on the floor, I picked up Mr. Fluffy and put him even closer to the crate…OK Simone, you can play with Mr. Fluffy…and then I just went over to sit with Mom while she cooked. “Good BOY Winston. I think we will be just fine” and Mom gave me a piece of cheese! Yep, I think we will be just fine.
